Glencairn is situated half way between Fish Hoek and Simons Town on the False Bay coast, and was originally a coastal farm called Elsebaai. The farm was bought in 1901 by a group of Scots businessmen who formed the Glencairn Syndicate, named after the pile of stones - a "cairn", at the upper end of the glen.
This friendly seaside neighbourhood boasts a local shopping centre, church, and tennis court, as well as a popular beachside hotel frequented by locals as well as visitors. The area also has a number of top class restaurants.
Glencairn beach is well loved by families and has a large tidal pool where children can safely play in the warm waters and dogs can run along the sand. The waves are ideal for surfing and in spring and summertime the local fishermen can be seen trekking for haarders and yellowtail.
The community is very proud of its wetland system which has been proclaimed as a bird sanctuary with local residents very involved in the conservation of this area, and have built a beautiful walkway around the vlei for all to enjoy.
